VISA Report: Merchant Compliance Up www.VISA.com - 07/10/08
The percentage of merchants who are in compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) increased in the first quarter of this year, Visa says. While the percentage of Level 1 merchants that process over 6 million Visa transactions annually and that validated their PCI DSS compliance held steady at 77 percent in the first quarter of 2008, the percentage of compliant Level 2 merchants that process between 1 million and 6 million Visa transactions per year jumped 16 percent; 78 percent of Level 2 merchants were compliant as of March 31, 2008. Fifty-six percent of Level 3 merchants that process 20,000 to 1 million Visa transactions via their Web sites had achieved compliance by March 31, versus 54 percent that were in compliance on Dec. 31, 2007. In addition, Visa says that 99 percent of Level 1 and Level 2 merchants have notified their acquirers that they do not store card data banned by PCI rules.
